Critical Response
"Tongue-in-cheek but never campy, “Shin Ultraman” is an object lesson in how to reboot a superhero franchise for modern times."
- VARIETY
"There’s no winking self-awareness here, no digital recreation of costume seams or slightly visible wires, just an appreciation for the fact that the original series — colorful, imaginative, ambitious — had an aesthetic that worked in its own way."
- THEWRAP
"Come for the epic ass kickings, stay for the silliness of giant monsters battling a huge metal man."
- AUSTIN CHRONICLE
"Younger viewers will adore the creativity, while nostalgic grown-ups will find it all wonderfully amusing. There is a strong sense of fun running right through the whole movie."
- FICTION MACHINE
"Shin Ultraman is a love letter to the show, simultaneously embracing the goofier aspects and adding gravitas where needed."
- THE MOVIE SLEUTH
"If you have ever enjoyed a kaiju film, you will love this."
- EYE FOR FILM
"It’s tremendously slick and entertaining, and that, above all, is indicative of what’s so vital about Shin Ultraman: it’s simply the most fun movie I’ve seen in quite a long time."
- IN REVIEW ONLINE
"The lively pace makes it easy to watch and the spirit generated by Ultraman and his steely determination to do what's right proves to be quite infectious."
- SCREENANARCHY
"It’s a wonderful example of how to do retro-modern storytelling."
- BLOODY DISGUSTING

Mixing the optimistic retro-futurism of the ’60s television show with modernist pop-art aesthetics, Shin Ultraman is destined for future cult classic status, a delightful reimagining of one of Japan’s classic superheroes with a healthy dose of large-scale city-smashing combat to leave you cheering.
