Five Senses Phonics Book 5
About The Book
Five Senses Phonics is a carefully structured series of activity books for pre-readers and beginning readers at the important stage of their literacy acquisition. These activity books are intended for use in a preschool setting, in the beginning school years, and for older students who are having difficulty learning to read.
Book 5 focuses on:
Consonant digraphs
Double vowel rule
Bossy ‘e’ rule
Soft ‘c’ and ‘g’ sounds
In Book 5 students learn to read words containing new phonics generalisations – commonly occurring digraphs, words containing long vowel sounds and the ‘soft’ sounds of the letters ‘c’ and ‘g’. The activity pages consolidate the acquisition of these new skills as they are sequentially introduced. An expanded list of basic sight vocabulary words is introduced which students are expected to master.
The exercises in Book 5 enable students to attain competency in higher level phonics skills. On completing Book 5, students read words containing consonant digraphs, long vowel sounds and the soft ‘c’ and ‘g’ sounds. Students then progress to Book 6 to develop the skill of reading words containing digraphs, diphthongs, vowels before ‘r’ and silent letters.
Student progress is regularly monitored and evaluated after completing each level by using the Achievement Tests section. Each test is specifically designed to assess mastery of skills and to allow students to confirm the positive results of their learning experiences.
